    Haven't read the IDW comics in a while but, why do a lot of people pair Surge and Amy? Is Surge gay? She make a pass at Amy at some point? I'm kinda curious where this spawned from.

    Surge has made no indications of her sexuality whatsoever nor has she expressed any interest in Amy. Amy and Surge's only meaningful interaction was her being genuinely surprised Amy believed she could be a better person, and they've not interacted again since.

    It's 100% baseless headcanon shipping.

    It's the sonic fanbase, my friend. It's literally used as the traditional joke example of how insane/deranged some fandoms can be and the absurd range of fetishes and their relevant communities. To be clear, my only point here is that shipping two characters people like is the least surprising thing. There's no reason for it or anything else in the fandom. Sonic was never interested in Amy and she doesn't romantically chase after him anymore, yet people still ship them all the time, etc.

    Nah, Amy was nice to her one issue and that was it, it’s just one of those ships the fanbase conjures up and latches onto cause fandoms do that, especially in the Sonic Fandom, they see any friendly interaction as a possible ship, or they just ship whoever they like for example Shadow X Tikal, it is a such a random semi-popular ship, they’ve never even met lol

    I think the whole motif is “Amy gets to date someone like Sonic/Surge gets a positive influence in her life that helps her heal”.

    Their personalities are polar opposites tomboy and girly girl and they're complimentary colours making them fun to draw together. Don't need much more than that.

    Also the people who want Surge to try cucking sonic cause she doesn't know he's asexual.

    One of the official alt covers was framed as a sort of ntr scenario of Surge and Amy going on a "date" while Sonic angrily watches in the background. There's nothing official tying them together really. Though, Surge's only motivation really is to hurt sonic, so if she found out that Sonic and Amy have a weird sort of romance going in where they both like eachother but aren't/can't date I could see her trying maybe? Really unlikely the writers would actually develop it very far though, this isn't archie.
