MemberCat owner here. They like it because it's a natural reaction when cats go at it from what I understand. Males I think do it to get other males off of them, while females usually stay put but correct me if I'm wrong since I don't have a female cat. Males will usually bite you if you do it for too long, but it can be interpreted as a love bite if it's your cat.
