MemberFurry art from "back in the day" had a totally different look. The style was way more anime and manga informed, hair was wild, digital art had visible pixels, lots of artists still inked on paper. If you go through the years you can see the production value of popular furry art shift when pay-platforms hit the scene and with the massive technological leap when things like screen tablets became affordable to the home-gamer. Sadly it also means lots of artists coming up now have never learned how to do stuff on paper and have terrible habits when they draw.
