Kris is the main protagonist and playable character of Deltarune, and the human Hero of Light that The Prophecy speaks of.

Depicted as a teenage human of ambiguous gender, Kris has an olive skin tone, messy, brown hair with short bangs, and wears a long-sleeved green shirt with a single horizontal yellow stripe, with nondescript pants and shoes. Whenever Kris enters the mysterious Dark World, their appearance changes - their skin and hair turn blue, and they wear plate armor with a pink and blue capelet. One of Kris's distinct features is that the upper half of their face is overshadowed, which blocks visibility of their eyes. On the rare occasion that their eyes can be seen, they are shown to be bright red.

The other characters have mixed opinions of Kris, finding them either off-putting or endearing. Generally, Kris is seen as a rather antisocial, quiet, and "creepy kid" - various townsfolk express surprise when Kris voluntarily engages them in conversation. According to many of their neighbors, Kris has always been mischievous, pulling fairly morbid pranks such as covering themselves in ketchup and claiming it was blood. In the Dark World, the others see Kris as a "leader." Ralsei and, eventually, Susie follow their commands in battle and follow them around the overworld. Both Susie and King refer to them as a "quiet person."

Kris shares several properties with the human children from Undertale, including a similar name to Frisk, and similar clothing to Chara. Like Chara, Kris enjoys chocolate and has an affinity for knives.

Kris's mother is Toriel and their older brother is Asriel.
