In August of 2022 it was revealed that despite earning in excess of 60,000 euros a year, Lawlor had been receiving the taxpayer subsidised Housing Assistance Payment(HAP) for his two-bed South Dublin apartment. According to sources, he paid just 50 euro a week for his apartment.[2]

Lawlor has appeared in a number of promotional videos for a local Scientology group, on on occasion wearing official Scientology branded clothing. He later commented that he does not support the group and described them as a cult.[3]
