In an Alternate Timeline where NASA gets funding, a program starts in order to create a robot that can help Occupy astronauts during long-time missions from Earth to other planets in the Solar System
It also helps as a Propaganda asset, for Colonists i'm sure...
I have some silly little lore for this robot as to why they were built in the first place
Give the robotics division some time and they'll create some sort of excuse as to why they need the funding for this program
Very important research to be done, and i'm sure things to do is very needed on trips that take months in space.
