The point of the downvote is to say, "I want less of this". We don't downvote it as an alternative to blacklisting, it's not just the rape tag I have the problem with, it's that this makes the "fantasy" a little too realistic for me. For me this crosses the line between harmful and harmless in the rape kink. May not be everyone's opinion, but it's why I personally downvoted.

It's still fictional. Also especially for people who have been through sexual violence (like myself) the fucked up nature of it is what we're looking for. Relieving our experiences (or worse) while having full control over them takes away the power the other person had. If you don't understand that then fine but it doesn't mean the post deserved to be down voted

You're probably right tbh. Maybe I'm is just too hard-coded from algorithms like youtube and tiktok, and my mind pairs downvoting with disliking, like it'll actually affect my recomended. For that reason I look at it more subjectively than objectively, not thinking of my dislike as "This post is just bad", and more of a "see less" button

As for why I didn't care for it even though it's fiction, it just strikes a little close to home as someone who wasn't raped, but dodged a bullet with an internet catfish. Fiction can still be fucked sometimes. I don't necessarily have a problem with any of the tags you mention, but I think my personal fix is just gonna be removing my dislike and blacklisting the artist. (Also I think I'm just into the milder rape, I already have most of the more psychologically fucked up shit blacklisted)

I'm not tryna bitch or say others can't enjoy this type stuff, especially if it's a mechanism to overcome rape trauma. I'm not upset at all about it, just was trying to say it's not for me, and now realize that disliking wasn't the way to express that.

Pretty sure that's not how this site works. It's not social media with that kind of algorithm. You're just insulting the artist without changing what you see at all. Use the damn blacklist on the tags you don't like or scroll the hell past it. You download stuff that's actually bad, as in low quality, not stuff that's not to your personal taste.

I'm quite into this but tbh, but skimming these comments and having seen similar discourses - according to the average E621 user there is NO point in the downvote feature.

What are we judging by then? Quality? Please, the quality control on this site is pretty much "if it passes as a drawing and isn't 100% A.I it's allowed" and not to put anyone down but it is NOT the quality that makes people upvote either, no one here's that picky and I'm not even saying that to be mean, I think that's how it should work, all art deserves representation as does all critique.

But genuinely, what is the point in a downvote even existing if you should just blacklist everything you don't like? It comes off as kind of sensitive to me, not even of the people downvoting things, but people complaining about downvoting things. Like yeah, not everyone gets off to the same stuff as you, that doesn't mean they have to shield their eyes from it like a nun. They should be just as encouraged to be honest with their distaste and share their opinions as you are yours.

Complaining about people downvoting because they don't like a tag is perfectly valid. There's a way for everyone to only see what they want, the voting system has nothing to do with opinion on tags, it's for quality within the listed tags. These people need to direct their dislike of rape content on this site to the site owners, after which they will be ignored, or told to use the blacklist feature.

It's like going to a furry convention to express your dislike towards dressing as fantasy anthro animals. You can just choose not to go and this issue doesn't need to exist. It's so ironic to talk getting out of a bubble on a furry porn site.
