Party Favour

Story

Lady and Tramp strolled arm in arm down the winding path, sunlight filtering through the leafy branches overhead, casting dappled shadows on the trail. The spring air was fresh and fragrant, carrying the delicate scents of blooming flowers. Lady, dressed in a graceful blouse and skirt, her heels clicking softly against the cobbled path, cast a contented smile toward her husband. Her warm brown eyes sparkled as she looked at him, her auburn ears catching the sunlight.

“It’s such a beautiful day, isn’t it?” the spaniel said softly.

Tramp, dressed in a casual vest over his shirt, flashed her one of his toothy grins, the hoops of a wicker basket held in the crook of his free arm. “Beautiful day? And here I was just thinking it’s you who makes it so.”

Lady’s cheeks flushed, and she let out a soft, playful laugh. “You’re such a charm,” she teased, giving his arm a gentle squeeze. “I might begin to suspect you’re trying to warm me up.”

“Well Pidge, I can’t help myself.” He leaned in close, lowering his voice with a mischievous glint in his eye. “Who could resist, with such a lovely lady on his arm?”

She gave him a gentle but pointed look, her lips curving into a smile. “You do realize that flattery only works if it’s subtle?”

“Subtle?” He feigned innocence, looking up at the trees with an exaggeratedly pensive expression. “I thought I was being subtle.”

“Of course you did,” she giggled, watching him with an affectionate gaze. She leaned her head against his shoulder as they continued to walk, savoring the closeness between them.

As they neared a more secluded section of the park, the more the town faded into the background, replaced by birdsong and the gentle rustle of leaves. Tramp gestured ahead, his eyes bright. “There’s a little gazebo just around the bend here. Thought it’d be a good spot for us. No one comes back here, off the beaten path. So, it’s somewhere quiet, private… a little slice of paradise only the most exclusive people know about.”

Lady laughed softly, the sound like a melody on the warm breeze. “Exclusive, is it? And I suppose you have a membership there?”

“Lifetime,” he winked, glancing down the winding trail. “And it’s only open to the most discerning patrons.”

She tilted her head slightly, the faintest hint of amusement in her warm brown eyes. “So, what does that make me?”

“Oh, you’re the guest of honor.” He glanced at her with a mischievous smile. “Now, you wouldn’t turn down an invitation from someone with my reputation, would you?”

She laughed, soft and melodic, squeezing his arm again. “Well, it wouldn’t be ladylike to say no.”

He chuckled, a little bashful, as they approached the gazebo—a quaint, vine-covered structure tucked between tall trees and blooming lilac bushes. The surrounding area was shaded and peaceful, with a gentle breeze ruffling through the branches.

“Here we are, Pidge,” he said, sweeping his hand in a gallant gesture.

Lady tilted her head up to him, eyes twinkling. “Oh you rouge, you’re planning something. Arn’t you?”

“Guilty as charged,” he said, holding up a hand with a grin.

Tramp stepped ahead to set down the basket he’d brought, pulling out a soft tablecloth and spreading it carefully across the wooden table in the center of the gazebo. Lady watched him with an affectionate smile, touched by the thoughtfulness in each of his little preparations.

“Figured it’s not every day we get to just… enjoy each other’s company without any interruptions. And besides, I thought you might like a little pampering.”

“Oh, is that so?” Lady smirked, lifting her chin a bit. “Or was this all just an excuse to escape into your secret hideaway with me?”

“Who, me?” he asked, feigning a look of mock scandal. “I would never.”

She raised an eyebrow, a gentle, playful challenge in her gaze. “Well, if you’d simply asked, I’d have come willingly.”

Tramp slyly tipped the lid of the basket open a little further, showing off several coils of rope. “Well now, knowing you, that might ruin half of the fun.”
