  • I so hate X/Twitter. It's impossible for me to pull the full file sizes for images on that site. But this was too good not to upload.

Was hoping it wouldn't be replaced but apparently that was too much to hope for.

The image you uploaded was small, almost 1/3 the resolution of Twitter's full size. I don't know why some people have constant issues uploading from Twitter. My Firefox on desktop always seems to give me the largest version, so I assume people uploading smaller versions might be on mobile getting served small versions to save data. The upload form throws a warning at you when you give a poor Twitter URL, so where does this complaint come from?

The direct URL entered has the following problem: Sample URL
You should review the sourcing guide.

The sourcing guide is really long and indirect about giving users that one thing they need. One day I want to sit down and make a condensed version of the sourcing guide that'd be like "Sourcing: Tips and Tricks." Just the good stuff. On the growing list of things I want to do but do not have the time for without sacrificing other duties.

Solution: In Twitter's direct image URLs, change the &name=[something] at the end to &name=orig. That's it. That produces Twitter's best version of an image.

    You uploaded: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Gb1TxD_bwAMiLZz?format=jpg&name=small
    Best version: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Gb1TxD_bwAMiLZz?format=jpg&name=orig

Easy. Sometimes, the best version is indeed =small because the Twitter user posted something small. This one =orig is also =large.

Yeah, I use a phone. So I can only pull so much.

I've never received a warning for giving a poor Twitter URl. I've received warnings when I do an upload with the less then 10 tag limit, which I haven't done in a very long time. But never a warning for giving a poor Twitter URL. Maybe it's because I'm using my phone.

I've tried that with switching the small to original/large. Over half the time it doesn't work and I get an error page or a blank white page.

These days I try my best to get the highest file size that I can. Years ago a oh so helpful person replaced almost all my uploads. Put my upload limit in the negative and locked me out of uploading. I followed the instructions on the Upload Limit Page. My upload count was reset to 10 and I was told to try not to let it happen again cause chances were my upload limit wouldn't be reset a second time.

So nowadays I mainly upload from DeviantArt and Furaffinity cause it's easier for me to get what I think is the highest file size. But I still sometimes fall short and a person will get their hands on a larger file size then what I've uploaded.

This is what you should see with you URL you provided for this post:

If this is recent (last month or so), Twitter made direct linking to images harder, so multiple attempts are often required, if it's the same issue everyone else should be experiencing. Just keep pressing the Upload button until one attempt goes through. I've needed ten tries some times, others worked first try. The alternative is saving everything to the device and uploading that separately, but (1) please provide source links anyway and (2) phones have "data saver" features that may automatically compress files anyway, defeating the purpose. Data saving can be disabled, I believe, and may not be active by default, but that's an extra bit of investigation.

Looks like you're logged in to DeviantArt and using the download button, so that's good. Posts that don't have the button are more complicated, and users are likely to get lower quality samples than are available.

Ohhhhhh, that message. Yes. That I do get. I thought you were talking about something different.

Really, Twitter. Huh. I thought that e621 had to approve sites for direct linking. What's the term, I think it's White Listed. Like Furaffinity is White Listed. I can upload an image using the Direct Image Link. I wasn't aware that a site itself could prevent that or make it harder. I have a TracFon and have a free phone plan so I won't fiddle with the Data Saver, I might accidentally void my plan or something. I will always provide Source Links regardless of what I upload.

I do indeed have an account over on DeviantArt. I love that Download Button. It ensures I pretty much get the highest file size. Not all the time but most of the time.

And is there a way for me to easily see if I have something pending replacement and or pending deletion. Right now I have something pending for one or the other and I can't even find it to see what it is. And it isn't a pending upload, I checked and that page is empty. I think it might be one of my older uploads.

Feel free to shoot me a pm if you want. You responded to me 3 days ago and I didn't notice til now.
